NOTE: If you have not read and studied the NAFA Guide to Air Filtration, please do not register for the exam.
The Certified Air Filter Specialist (CAFS) program distinguishes those professionals who have demonstrated a thorough, up-to-date understanding of air filtration technology and high level of professionalism. To become certified, air filtration professionals must pass an extensive examination on the principles, methods and applications of air filtration.
Successful completion of the exam requires three things: study and understand the NAFA Guide; have at least one-year’s field experience and participate in the 2-hour tutorial. When purchasing products or services from a Certified Air Filter Specialist, customers are assured that their particular requirements and needs will be addressed by a knowledgeable professional.
The CAFS Q&A was designed for air filtration professionals who have at least one year of field experience, have read the NAFA Guide to Air Filtration and are preparing to sit for the CAFS exam.

To further help you prepare for the exam, NAFA has developed a series of webinar recordings that covers the 16 chapters in the NAFA Guide to Air Filtration, 5th Edition. Below is a link to the page where the webinars are hosted. The page contains links to the recording for each chapter. I strongly encourage you to view them prior to taking the exam.
This series of webinars replaces the “Track One” previously offered at Technical Seminars, allowing you more time to review and study; you will be allowed to review any portion as many times as you need. It also offers you the opportunity to participate fully in NAFA sessions at the conference:

The 100 question (70 multiple choice, 30 true/false) CAFS Exam is based on the NAFA Guide to Air Filtration, 5th or 6th Ed. (2014 or 2021). In fact, every question comes straight out of the book, so if you don’t have a copy, you can order your copy here. If you study the manual thoroughly you should have no problem passing the exam. We also recommend that you have at least one year of field experience in the air filter industry. NAFA does offer this webinar tutorial, however, if you have not read and understood the NAFA Guide to Air Filtration, you will probably not pass the exam.
