Before the Pre-Filter: The Overlooked First Stage of Air Filtration
July 29, 2026 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
(CDT)
Description
Most filtration strategies start at the pre-filter. But for any equipment that draws outside air, the real first stage happens at the outside intake – literally outside the equipment – and it's the one most facilities ignore.
In this session, Rensa Filtration's Jim Moran, CAFS examines how unprotected air intakes drive up maintenance and shorten the life of everything downstream, across cooling towers, air-cooled chillers, condensers and RTUs, dry coolers, and make-up air units. Real-world case studies, including a hyperscale data center that cut cooling tower strainer cleanings by 75%, show what happens when facilities stop letting debris into the system in the first place.
